Hey, girls (and gals), think about this for a fast minute, would you please?
Re the war...sides are pretty much dlineated, and it's become glaringly obvious that neither side is budging in their collective beliefs. The repartee has simply become a showcase for the participants to exhibit their sniping skills. Pertinent information is no longer being exchanged--just opinions on how that information should be interpreted.
I know it's an unmoderated newsgroup, and I know I have no right to set rules, so please don't bother citing all that stuff to me. (Others have done a much better job of that than I ever could! <G>) But consider this...the banter is fruitless, and it has become difficult to avoid even in threads clearly marked as discussion of a particular software. It has established an environment that almost invites trolls and drive-bys and in general has denigrated the whole newsgroup to the level of an elementary school playground.
If you believe anything good is coming from all the arguing, then obviously my note is irrelevant to you. If, OTOH, you agree that the newsgroup is becoming too hard to navigate to get real information in a timely fashion, then perhaps you could do your part to elevate the standards.
I'm contributing to it all with this post, you say? Yeah, right--but just once in a row!

I agree with you Anne. There is a big problem with such. Each time I have tried to get down to business, Susan and her sharks jump in with thier little "see we really control this group and will snipe you out" song and dance. It is up to their behavior whether this will end or not. |

No one pulls the trigger at the same time. How easily one forgets what started this latest battle. Susan performing her little games with the Orbit Downloader malware scam. The original war of this ilk began with Susan performing her little protectionist games. The noise comes from the sharks feeding.
I am not getting into debate on why or what or how she did what she did. Her game is obvious...and has little to do with the apparent subject. The fact that such a balloo stems from is part of the game of this is "our" newsgroup dude. |

I told you once, I was a regular in here, I'm not anymore but sometimes I take a quicker look into. Sad state in here. For example today I open a "Re: REQ: Program to convert audio files to (not from) cda format" message from you, where you attack Franklin just because he explains something, totally on topic:
| Quote: |
| Franklin, the guy is looking for a program to use, not a lecture of your recently received education by Hummingbird |
This is really shocking me, this is a case where *you* and only you "jump in" and as I strongly believe for no reason, because obviously the original poster was not aware what .cda file format does mean. Why not helping him out?
Sad state in here (not only but mainly) because of you.
So especially you are the reason I'm no regular in here anymore.

Thorsten |

I'm in no interest for any bunch I may have missed, I know you and Franklin trolling against each other. But I strongly believe the poster of the original question we are talking about by now was not aware of any bunch as well. It's all about freeware and computer support in ACF, and Franklin was on topic and you were the one trolling. And now (in this thread) you're saying it's only others peoples fault? Stupid! Who is uneducated right now?
It is off topic in here, but this is why I say Franklin was on topic: A audio CD is not a data CD. There are no files on a regular audio CD (there are mixed types, I know). There is no way to burn any data CD the way it will play in any audio CD player (not the newer ones that can play mp3, but that was not what the original poster asked for). That Windows displays something like .cda files is misleading, these virtual files do not contain any music (their size usually is 44 bytes), they are just some kind of shortcut to the audio track (yes, audio CD is organized in tracks, not in files). It is a basic fact to understand, that you need to choose audio CD project type in whatever burning app you use to create a valuable audio CD, and that there is no valid .cda file format that allows creating of a valid audio CD. When someone is aware of this little simple fact maybe he already has a working burning app on his system, no need to install anything else. Or he can use the one you suggested the correct way.

Thorsten |

Hello,
| Quote: |
| With respect Thorsten, since you are now only an occasional lurker you might have missed that Franklin pops up all over the place every day where I or BB have posted (often using a fiendishly polite manner) to rubbish what we've written by stating what he thinks is correct, as though he is the world expert. His list of tricks is long and include x-posting rubbish to/from another group where I occasionally post and starting rubbish threads on ACF to stir up trouble. |
please read, why I think Franklin was on topic IN THIS CASE in my later answer to BB in this thread. I really don't care about all this war (beside it's the reason I no longer regularly in here), but you all should fight it in a way no new or occasional posters are affected. I don't like Franklin as well, but his post IN THIS CASE was correct and imported. What he wrote some postings later in return of getting smashed massively, it does not change this fact about his first valuable answer to the original poster.
| Quote: |
| In honesty, you really do need to take a wider view of events on ACF. I have posted in this thread a proposal to end this "war". |
I lost orientation, are you pro or con BB?
I gave up being around in here because of him, that's my personal fact. And when you now stand by his side, when he claims, he tries to "get down to business", only the other "sharks jump in", that is ridiculous, and I just gave an example why.

Thorsten |

Anne, you are fine lady with plenty of commonsense and integrity and I vote that you take on the role of mediator in this war. ISTM that if each side could find the courage to clearly state their ceasefire conditions, that would be a good place to start. For my part, I would not demand that either side admitted past liability of any allegation against them, only that they promised not to do such things in the future. Can't be fairer than that...
If anyone's interested in a truce, I will play my part. |
It would do no good. I went well past grovelling to try and get things on track and that failed. War it is. |
