| I just thought I'd add that this excellent freeware tool can often speed up a computer remarkably and solve a host of other operational difficulties. |

Well thanks a lot!
I just posted your MID to my provider's support group ... they have a deal with Norton which is why many newbies get trapped into buying. C. |
To "deal with Norton" seems almost synonymous, sometimes, with "deal with the Devil," doesn't it? |

This new laptop came with the Tarbaby-Norton-Everything, which I removed immediately. That removal included 15-20 minutes of careful Registry searching for "Symantec", "Norton", and the names of the various tools - and though there must have been 25 or more such residual entries I felt some had been missed.
I appreciate the Official Removal Tool, and just ran it. Somehow I'm convinced that it removed even more...
Thank you. |

Next time you uninstall, try Revo Uninstaller. It performs the uninstall then looks for remnants of the program to remove.

Friends of mine make a lot of money by helping costumers to get that suite running - or removed
C. |
I've made a few bucks on that myself. I *never* recommend NIS anymore, but if someone wants me to install it for them, it seems to take forever to get it all installed and fully updated (nearly impossible now on dial-up), while one prays that the system will still run reasonably well afterward. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't; one never can tell in advance. I get *much* more satisfaction from the process of removal. |

That's ok. You'll find this group has quite a few links to freeware websites.
From time to time you'll also find useful discussions here in which posters here actually nominate their favorite freeware to go on a website (see my sig).
To make sure that any selected freeware refects a wide range of user opinion rather than just one person's quirks, all posters are able to participate by voting on nominated freeware. |

I agree. It's a nice site - well designed, runs fast and very useful. |
http://tinyurl.com/3ajvj8 warns that NRT 2007.2.07.4 can cause damage in a Vista environment. I wonder if I've bruised my Vista using 2008.0.0.21? |

Yes!
But as I told before, the German Telekom (T-Com/T-Online now T-Home) has made a deal with Norton/Symantec trying to make all their customers buy that "Security Suite" .. so you may get 20 or more million new costumers for your product ;->
HTH.
C.
Consider to ask a moderate fee :-> |
Germany is a bit outside of my usual stomping grounds, I'm afraid. |

And the new version of NRT for Vista/XP/2000 now available for download at http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
is v2008.0.0.21, released today 7/21. |
