Since installing some Windows update (my guess) the batch file I created to run at startup (via a registry entry in HKCU's Run section) will no longer delete my index.dat files. Instead, I keep getting an error message that all of the index.dat files are in use.
I can manually delete the files using Unlocker, but it's a PITA to do so and I would like to find an easier method. Hopefully, even a totally automated process as was the case with my batch file.
After looking around, I've noticed these two programs:
http://www.burzurq.com/forum/delindex.html

and:

http://www.browsertools.net/IE-Privacy-Keeper/takealong.html
both of which have portable versions from what I can see. They also claim to be able to delete index.dat files without requiring a reboot (unlike Index.dat Suite, for instance.)

Delindex isn't listed at any of the freeware websites I frequent (Snapfiles, Nonags, etc.) but IE-Privacy-Keeper is, even though it's PROmotionware. Another problem is that although IPK claims to be able to delete index.dat files, it's not at all obvious how to get it to do this thoroughly.

Does anybody have any other suggestions?

CCleaner has an option to launch with Windows and will 'mark for deletion' index.dat files if asked.

Thanks jon, but for some reason my batch file started working again.
