Can someone please convince me why I should switch from IE6 to Firefox, Opera or whatever browser you like best. I really don't feel the need to switch other than this one "flaw". If I have a browser (IE6) open and run a batch file to run a gaming site, for instance, the batch file runs the site in the window already open and therefore I have to hit the "back" button if I want to keep browsing that particular site. It also happens when reading mail and clicking on a link. If I'm playing Spades on Zone.com and happen to be checking mail and then click on a link, I might be dropped from the game if I'm not fast enough with the "stop" button. What I need to happen is that a browser knows there is a window already open and does not try to use that to open the link. Thanks.

Firefox can be set to open links from external apps (such as your batch) in either a new tab or in a new window, your choice. |
Or switch to IE 7. Does same.

All three browsers are good browsers. There are a few other good ones. I have fallen in love with Opera for many reasons, but mostly because I can do most everything I do on the web with it.
Many will say IE is bug ridden and has much more security flaws. All in all...that is not a valid reason as there is no greatly flawed difference. Security boils down to mostly what you do on the web and how careful you are.
Many will say...it frees me more from MS products...though that is a small step.
Yep, all in all...I would say give FF and Opera each a month totally to each...then choose which one you like best. |

Ummm...I was thinking IE7...IE7, Opera, or FF are much better than IE6. Once you get used to either of those, you will never go back. |

If you like IE then move to Maxthon as it works on the IE engine and has tabs and plugins should you need them. |

I'm not into gaming, but you might find that Deepnet solves your problem. I do not like Firefox because it has too many plug-ins.

I tried IE7, both here and at someone else's place, and didn't care for it too much. Besides, it changes a whole bunch of things I'd rather be left as it is. It took me a long time to get this computer the way I like it, and that's why I keep Ghost images of the partition... in case something f_cks it up. Thanks.

IE7 is much more secure than IE6 and you should try to overcome your apprehension towards this browser. There are educational links (Sandie Hardmeyer blogs etc.) available as what to do prior downloading IE7. Provided you follow these easy recommendations, you'll find that the transition from IE6 to IE7 is extremely smooth and painless. IE7 can be 'tightened' up considerably and there is software freely available to assist with enhancing the securing IE7 further.
Even though, many security experts still discourage the use of IE7 because it's 'spliced' in the OS. It appears that as an alternative, Opera is currently top choice followed by FF.
Good luck |

I would keep IE6 if you are happy with it's rendering capabilities. However, the IE5 UI is a bit old and inefficient so what I would do is switch to the very lightweight IE based browser called Avant. It has some very useful features, but more than anything it makes you browser faster and more responsive. Try Avant, it's a simply efficient, and of course free. solution. |

What are your thought with respect to the outdated security features in IE6 ? |

Opera...without a doubt. It has the best features and interface without a doubt. ...and you don't have to mess with extensions that need to be redone everytime a new version comes out. |
