I'd like to add a second gigabyte of memory to my computer. Currently it has 1GB in the form of 2 modules of 512k each. How can I tell if a memory module on sale at a very low price is suitable for my computer--without trial, since it will probably be by mail order?
IOW, I don't want to pay the big bucks for an exact duplicate from the computer manufacturer.

Thanks,

Norm Strong

You can look up your motherboard and get info that way. You can put in the model of your puter into google and get info that way.

I'm a believer in going for the quality stuff, myself. That's based on an old 386 that I bought that had some of that free RAM that Best Buy was giving out... Sad It did not work correctly.
This utility will identify what you have for you:

What do you run that might require 2 gigs?

I have 1 gig with XP Pro, and I disabled the swap file so that everything runs in mem without swapping out. It runs like a top, even when doing image manipulation with several browser tabs, ftp, and other stuff running. Just curious.
