Recommendations please for capture cards (oppss!! is this the wrong place?) and the software for transfering videos from VHS tapes to DVD.
I'd rather not have to demux audio and video, remux, make images, etc etc forever.
TIA

Subject probably is OT but I have had a succession of ATI AIW video/capture cards over the last 8 years. They are a pain to set up but once working chug away without much drama.
Recommend them - possibly not as they tend to be a bit expensive but you do save on the cost of a graphics card.
One thing to consider is that AFAIK current capture cards will not capture a signal that is macro encoded - so if you are looking to back up all your old (commercial) vhs tapes you might be dissappointed.

The hardware will come with drivers/software for capturing and usually software for editing as well, "special" versions of Ulead Studio and Pinnacle Studio are favourites. Current software will capture and edit straight to mpg format, no need for the old-style monster uncompressed avi files. |

I am currently using WinAVI (free for a limited time) to transfer my VHS tapes to AVI files on HDs though it will also output DVD format ... |
