Been looking high-n-low for a freeware Pro Engineer CAD file viewer. The people at PTC(Pro/E) are more than happy to *sell* such a viewer for about 400 bones...

Anyone know of a freeware Pro/E CAD file viewer?

I think PS Exchange will do it. It can be found here:
http://www.delcam.com/general/software/ps-exchange.asp
Free viewer - you only pay for translations.

That's a multiple choice question. Wink What version of the app? What file type? etc. etc. etc.

http://www.ptc.com/appserver/mkt/products/home.jsp?k=403 "Pro/ENGINEER. . . ."
"Compatibility with myriad CAD tools
Includes associative data exchange and industry standard data formats"
FWIW. . .

Some free viewers for various CAD formats are listed on the ACF Graphics page:
http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/acf/P_GRAPHICS.php
Columbus can open some CAD formats. See:

What's the file extension ?

..prt and .asm. However, Pro/E has the habit of adding a .1 to .xxx number to reference as a revision of the file. Example: drawing1.prt.7 and that can throw in a snag.

I tried this one out and probably made more progress than I have with other freeware apps. Some of the files are viewable but the majority of the files were not.

It's starting to look like I'll have to byte the bullet and shell out some coin to PRT for their viewer only because we don't know what version of Pro/E was used to created the CAD files.
Bill, thanks for the link!

Boy, you got that right ;/

This might shed a bit more light on my plight; these files are discovery evidence in a trial and we don't know what version of Pro/E was used. Further more, I won't be able to find out what version of Pro/E unless I hire a expert, which I just might have to do.

Thanks Susan, those will be bookmarked for further reference.

You might want to simply view the files before becoming so rash as to shell out cash <grin>. For example, open one of the files in PSPad ... often, the version of the app used to create a doc will be included in the metadata.

Keep us informed...

Newer versions of Pro/E files are encrypted. You probably need to bite the bullet and buy the viewer or pay someone with a copy of Pro/E to open the files for you.

Are you the plaintiff or the defendant?
