Is there a freeware that will give the user control over the animation in Flash advertisements on the Web?

Firefox + Adblock

Don't you mean FF + Flashblock?

Flashblock is nice - it replaces flash with a clickable button.

AFAIK Fx + Adblock (Ctrl+Shift+F) can block Flash as well. Flashblock is probably easier, but I'm not inclined to install more extensions than I have to. Come to think of it, I also use NoScript and that blocks Flash as well.

But the OP wants 'control' as opposed to 'blocking' (?)

Orbit Downloader will download embedded FLV files. I'm not quite sure what you mean by control. Could you be a bit more specific?

By "Control" I mean make it STOP if I want it to STOP.
What do FLV files have to do with Flash advertisements?

That is the wrong way round in my world. Smile
FF + Flashblock makes it START if you want it to START.
