Well, I've lurked around here for some time and picked up some really useful software (and advice). I'm fed up with the arguing,complaining, moaning and bitching though so have decided enough is enough. I don't care if you read this or respond but I am posting in the hope that any passing lurker might notice the growing number of disgruntled users and steer well clear of this vendetta and flame ridden childish excuse for a group and move quickly on..

Dave leapt out of the bath and screamed "EUREKA!" before typing in alt.comp.freeware:

Hi,

The thing to do is set up filters to block / kill all the stuff as required. On a personal level, I don't "see "any of that stuff now, bar one or two odd "followups", now that I've blocked various names / posting hosts / key words etc.

I use Xnews myself, and I'd be happy to email you my current filters, if it would help?

So do I, and your offer is apreciated I'm sure.
However I use Xnews too, and I find one press of "k" is all that's needed, plus change the default from 100 days to indefinitely.
(I useter leave it at the 100 days default, but when they came out of the sin bin they always just as bad as ever, now ICBA, if they're gone, they're gone, and my quality of life has only improved)
So *my* advice would be;

Use Xnews, and use "k,0" when required Wink

Some persistent filters, and ignoring certain threads (almost any thread that draws a lot of quick attention) will make this group readable and helpful. People, otherwise helpful, can't rein in their egos and therefore need external constraints. The group is still a source of good information, despite its social dysfunction.

Agent is easy. Select a post, Ctrl+K, paste author, select kill option, done.

For interminable threads, select any post, press I. (for 'ignore')

The best way to do it is to block the entire offending thread using "add to score file" and filter on "subject." Then, all the crap goes away, including the well meaning puppets that just won't shut up, but are OK otherwise.

Out of your listing there I have four filters setup for four individuals. The last time I checked acf was last Thursday. My filters killed 415 posts from those four people alone, since last Thursday.
The criteria I use for a filtering is different from most people. I only filter people that do a large number of postings, nothing to do if they're trolls or kooks.

My logic being is if a person *has* to post that much then that person spends entirely too much time in front of their computer. People who spend *that* much time in front of their computers then don't have much of a life interacting with humans face-to-face. Then I only can conclude that they are nerds, and more than likely, nerds of the worst kind.

Also...I HATE NERDS!!!
